Funeral services for lifetime area resident Joyce C. Baumgartner, age 61, who died Tuesday, November 3, 1987 at her rural Luana home, were held Friday, November 6 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Verdon Swenson officiated at the services held at Forest Mills United Methodist Church. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon, Iowa with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Michael, Kevin, and Craig Cooper, Gaylen and Greg Snitker, and Wyatt Baumgartner.

Joyce was born July 28, 1926 in Allamakee County, Iowa to E. Julius and Caroline (Hagen) Moen. She attended rural area schools and was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church. On June 27, 1945 she married Robert Baumgartner in Waukon, Iowa. They moved to the Luana area around 1971. She was a homemaker and a member of the Forest Mills United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Carl Moen and Arthur Moen; and 4 sisters, Ruby Pladsen, Myrtle Leyse, Lillian Brown, and Evelyn Lippe.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; 6 daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Janice) Cooper, Mrs. Michael (Carol) Jeide, and Mrs. Larry (Sharon) Jones, all of Waukon, Iowa, Mrs. Craig (Jeananne) Miller of Apple Valley, California, Mrs. Steve (Sandra) Butler of Decorah, Iowa, and Mrs. Dave (Lori) Brainard of Postville, Iowa; 5 sons, Dennis Baumgartner of Lamont, Iowa, Darrell Baumgartner of Guttenberg, Iowa, and John Baumgartner, Richard Baumgartner, and Neil Baumgartner, all of Waukon, Iowa; 22 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Howard (Viola) Snitker of Waukon, Iowa.
