Contributor: Connie Ellis, (Not related)Funeral services were held Saturday, June 27 at 1:30 p.m. for Leona Ruth Hanson, age 73, who died Thursday, June 25, 1987 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. The Rev. Henry Heinbuch officiated at the services held at Zion United Church of Christ with burial in Oakland Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Richard Kerr, Larry Sheets, Lyle Henning, Irving Walsh, Dennis Bahr, and Joe Ryan.
Leona was born September 27, 1913 in Allamakee County, Iowa to Edward and Mary (Fiet) Ludeking. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. She attended Waukon High School. On December 31, 1945 she married Alfred "Tiny" Hanson at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. She had been a bookkeeper at Farm Bureau and Waukon newspapers for 30 years. She was a member of Zion UCC, VFW auxiliary, hospital auxiliary, Legion auxiliary, and Senior Citizens' club. She was a long time secretary/treasurer and a district officer of VFW auxiliary. She held different church offices including church offices. She enjoyed fishing, riding and sightseeing, taking pictures, playing "500" cards, word search puzzles and community activities.
Surviving are her husband, a sister Mrs. Roland (Margaret) Koehring of Postville, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
