Obituary - Mrs. G. W. Bulman (Sr.)
Ann Maria Rowe, daughter of John and Mary Elizabeth Rowe, was born at Wisbeack, Cambridgeshire, England, Sept. 12, 1847, and departed this life May 2, 1923, aged 75 years, 8 months, and 20 days. In the fall of 1856 she came with her parents to America, settling on what is now known as English Bench. On Dec. 5, 1861, she was united in marriage to Geo. W. Bulman, whose boyhood days were spent at the little village of Thedford, England, but who came in company with an older brother to America when only ten years of age. The young people in setting out to make for themselves a home encountered all the obstacles incident to pioneer days, but with unlimited ambition, honesty and industry became the possessors of as fine a farm as is to be found anywhere, retaining the same until 1919, when they sold the old homestead, where they had passed so many years and where together they had shared life's joys and sorrows, to Arthur and Charles Beardmore.
Aunt Ann, as she was known to us all, was one of those old fashioned, whole-souled Christian mothers, and just to know her was a blessing. No night was too dark or stormy for her to go to the bedside of a sick friend or neighbor wherever she could be of assistance. Patient, loving and kind, she "lived" her religion, patterned by the book she loved to read -- her Bible. She was well versed in the Scriptures and could repeat the stories almost "word for word," which to us younger ones seemed almost wonderful. She was the mother of thirteen children, all of whom grew to manhood and womanhood, except a little daughter, Cora Ann, who died in infancy. George W. and Ben preceded their mother in death.
Those remaining are John E. and Jesse, living in Canada; Arthur, Kremlin, Mont.; Ray, Leeds, N.D.; James G. of this county; Mrs. W.H. Young, Auburndale, Wis.; Mrs. Andrew Leppert, Mays Prairie; Mrs. K.F. Ebner, Cando, N.D.; Mrs. Wm. Palor, Osakis, Minn. and Mrs. John Shefelbine, in whose home she was tenderly and lovingly cared for during her last illness. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. W. J. Barnes, living at Lansing, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and many other friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held from the Shefelbine home Saturday afternoon and at Mt. Home church, of which she was a faithful and consistent member, with burial in English Bench cemetery beside the loved ones gone before. Rev. J. T. Reagan conducted the services. The choir rendering a song she loved to sing --"I’m Going Home."
A good woman has gone from us in the home, community and church. We will miss her, but her gentle influence will go on and on 'til Eternity's dawn.
