Memorial services for Hazel (Ewing) Olson, age 70, were held Thursday, December 31 at 11 a.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home, Postville, Iowa. Pastor Verdon Swenson officiated. Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Hazel Elizabeth, daughter of William Stuart and Hannah (Willis) Ewing, was born February 2, 1917 in Allamakee County, Iowa. She died Tuesday, December 29, 1987 in the Anamosa Community Hospital, Anamosa, Iowa. She was baptized in the Forest Mills Church, rural Postville, Iowa. She attended the Forest Mills School, completed the 8th and 9th grades at a Waterloo school and returned to graduate from the Postville High School in 1934. She married Horace Dennison and the couple had one daughter, Jennifer. He died August 4, 1951. After the death of her husband, she was married to Ole Olson and they had a son, Kim Olson. Hazel had been a telephone operator in Postville for several years. After the death of her husband, Horace, she was employed at the REC as a secretary. After her marriage to Mr. Olson, they operated a Drive-In at Elgin, Iowa. Hazel also had an antique shop. She had lived in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin for many years and then moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After she became ill, she moved to Martelle, Iowa to live with her sister, Gladys. For the past several months she had been in the Anamosa Hospital.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Horace and Ole, a grandson, Jeff Hill and two brothers, Robert Ewing and William Ewing.

Surviving are a son, Kim Olson, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Jennifer) Hill, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a step-daughter, Mrs. Donald (Olette) Olson of Hawkeye, Iowa; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Bertie (Mabel) Waters of Postville, Iowa and Mrs. Verne (Gladys) Stover of Martelle, Iowa.
