Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)James H. Donahue, age 79, rural New Albin, Iowa died Sunday, August 3, 1986 at his home. Services were held Wednesday August 6 at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Albin, Iowa. The Rev. Robert Rahe officiated. Burial was in St.Patrick's Cemetery in rural New Albin. Steffen Funeral Home of Caledonia, Minnesota was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Leonard Heiderscheit, Joe Hartley, James Hammell, Jim Donahue, Leo Whalen, and Robert Lager, Jr.
James was born November 11, 1906 in Minnesota to Michael and Mary (Hill) Donahue. He married Grace Ryan on May 24, 1937 in New Albin. She died in 1976. He farmed on the family farm which was settled by his grandfather in 1856.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother.
Survivors are two sons, Lawrence of New Albin, Iowa and Dale of Spring Grove, Minnesota; two daughters, Marguerite Donahue of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and Mary Ann Hartley of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; 9 grandchildren; a brother, Gerald Donahue of Woodstock, Illinois and two sisters, Eileen Bimrose of Lebanon, Indiana and Marian Lager of Caledonia, Minnesota.
