Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Marie A. Schoenthal, age 86, died Wednesday, December 10, 1986 at Northgate Manor in Waukon, Iowa where she had been a resident for 6 years. Services were held Saturday, December 13 at Martin Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Henry Heinbuch officiating. Burial was in Lansing Ridge Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Craig Thompson, Paul Thompson, John Brazell, Bill Brazell, Roger Zimmerman, and Duane Larson.
Marie was born May 1, 1900 in Lansing Township, Allamakee County, Iowa to Charles and Magdalene (Roth) Saewert. She attended local schools and was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ. On May 22, 1920 she married Fred Zimmerman. She married Ed Schoenthal April 9, 1952 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Ed died August 9, 1954. In addition,she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Harry Saewert and William Saewert and half brothers and sisters, Freemond, Edwin, Emma, Carl, and Lydia.
* obituary does not state if their last name was Saewert or if they were the children of her mother.*Survivors include a son Frederick Zimmerman of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 2 daughters, Mrs. Harry (Mary) Larson of Decorah, Iowa and Mrs. James (Wilma) Brazell of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; a step-son Curtis Schoenthal and a step-daughter Mrs. Leo (Dorothy) Klocke, both of Waukon, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
