Funeral services were held Saturday, November 16 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dorchester, Iowa for Rita Mae Schwartzhoff, age 42, who died Wednesday, November 13, 1985 at St. Francis Medical Center LaCrosse, Wisconsin, following a lengthy illness. Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. The Rev. Charles Kruse officiated. Casket bearers were Jeff, Nick, Tad, and Joe Schwartzhoff, and Bill and John Clauson. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Rita was born May 28, 1942 in Waukon, Iowa to William and Angela (Regan) Rikos Howes. She married Gerald Schwartzhoff on July 6, 1963 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa. They farmed in the Dorchester area. She was a member of St. Mary's Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Howes and her step-brother James Rikos.

Surviving are her husband, Gerald; 6 children: Mike, age 21, Greg, age 17, Michele, age 14, Kim, age 12, Kerri, age 9, and Mary, age 6; her mother Angela Howes of Waukon, Iowa; and her sister, Ruth Anne Clauson.
