Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Otinus Mikael Busness died September 8, 1987 in Jacksonville, Florida, two days before his 94th birthday. Funeral services were held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Jacksonville. Interment was at the National Cemetery at Ft. Snelling, St. Paul, Minnesota.
Otinus was born September 10, 1893 in Waterville, Iowa to the late Holger and Caroline (Anderson) Busness. He attended Luther College, Decorah, Iowa and played in the Luther College band touring with the band to Norway in 1914 and to the San Francisco Exposition in 1915. He married Luella Jacobson, also of Waterville in 1919. She preceded him in death many years ago.
He was employed by the U.S. Gypsum Company in Minneapolis and Mankato, Minnesota from 1925 to 1941. After moving to Florida he was employed as a Civil Service investigator transferring to the Veterans' Administration in 1945 until his retirement in 1964.
He married Clare Hagan in 1941. They did extensive traveling in Scandinavia, Europe, and North Africa. They spent a year as volunteers in the VISTA program in Puerto Rico in 1968-69
He is survived by his wife, Clare of Jacksonville; 4 daughters, Marjorie Runquist of Whiting, New Jersey, Ellinore Ask of Houston, Minnesota, Dorothy Dahl of Schaumberg, Illinois, and Virginia Peters of Temple, Texas; a brother, Holger Busness of Waukon, Iowa and 2 sisters, Martha Bjerke and Emma Kolsrud, also of Waukon, Iowa; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
