Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Ernest Stafford were held Monday, July 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Schultz Funeral Home, Monona, Iowa with the Rev. Marion Bloodworth officiating. Pallbearers were Marlyn Henderson, Cletus Rose, Tom Rose, Emmett Palmer, Norbert Palmer, and Lloyd Rose. Burial was in the Smithfield Cemetery, rural Luana, Iowa.
Ernest Hampton Stafford was born January 16, 1894 in Franklin Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. He was the son of Seth N. and Betty Clare (Entwisle) Stafford. He was a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona, Iowa and the AF & AM Clayton Lodge #70. His education was received in the rural schools. On April 29, 1914 he was united in marriage to Velva Rose at Monona, Iowa. To this union, four daughters were born. He engaged in farming for many years in Allamakee County, Iowa and in 1941 they moved to Burlington, Iowa where he was employed as Operating Engineer at the Iowa Ordnance Plant for 23 years. In 1964 he retired and they moved to Monona where they lived until his health failed. He became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa where he died on July 19, 1985.
Preceding him in death were his parents; 2 daughters, Laurayne and Vernie Ruth; 3 brothers, David, Ray, and Bert Stafford; 4 sisters, Edna Hefner, Ethel Palmer, Jessie Henderson, and Olive Neubauer.
Surviving are his wife, Velva; 2 daughters, Mrs. Robert (Leone) Hegeman of Waukon, Iowa and Mrs. Ben (Dorothy) Dorkins of Springfield, Illinois; 4 grandchildren: Louis Hegeman, Miriam Esmail, Glenn and Paul Dorkins, and 5 great-grandchildren.
