Funeral services were held Saturday, February 13 for 16 year old John Anthony Hurst of LaVista, Nebraska who was killed Wednesday, February 10, 1988 in a traffic accident. Pastor Frank Mauer officiated at the 2 p.m. services held at Zion Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Burial was in Cedar Dale Cemetery in Papillion, Nebraska. Casket bearers were his three brothers, Robert, David, and Richard Hurst, brother-in-law Clyde Jones, and friends Steve Carter and Scott Roach.

John was born in Omaha, Nebraska on December 7, 1971 to Robert Hurst and Mona (Christensen) Hurst. He was baptized at St.John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, Iowa. He was a tenth grader in the Papillion LaVista School system and a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Preceding him in death were his grandfathers Hurst and Christensen and an uncle, Arthur Christensen.

Survivors include his mother, Mona (Christensen) Hurst of LaVista, Nebraska, his father Robert Hurst of Seattle, Washington; 3 brothers, Robert and David Hurst of LaVista, Nebraska and Richard Hurst of Omaha, Nebraska; 2 sisters, CAtherine Jones and Mona Jean Hurst, both of LaVista, Nebraska; grandmothers, Ethel Christensen of Waukon, Iowa and Elmeda Hurst of Yuma, Arizona; 3 nieces, 2 nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
