Funeral services for Effie L. Wurtzel of Waukon, Iowa were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 28 at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church. Pastor Peter Samuelson conducted the services. Burial was in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Dan Schlitter, Arlyn Pladsen, James C. Gruber, Vince Mathis, Dick Spinner, and Donald Wurtzel.

Effie was a lifetime area resident of Allamakee County. She died Sunday June 25, 1989 at the age of 95 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. She was born June 23, 1894 in rural Waterville, Iowa to Ole and Gustava Nelson. She attended rural Allamakee County schools through the sixth grade. On October 21, 1915 she married Robert Wurtzel at her home near Waterville, Iowa. He died September 10, 1981. She was a member of OEPC, church circles, and many other church activities.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Louis, Otto, Herman, Gus, Albert, Alfred, and Joseph Nelson; and three sisters, Louise, Nora, and Laura. Surviving are a sister, Emma Hanson of Waukon, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
