Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)A memorial service will be held Sunday January 22, 1989 for Allan D. Herman, age 76, who died in Portland, Oregon on December 30, 1988. The 2 p.m. service will be held at Zion United Church of Christ with the Rev. Henry Heinbuch officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon, Iowa.
Allan was born November 3, 1912 to George and Ruth (Buettell) Herman and graduated in 1930 from Waukon High School. He graduated from Mission House College, Plymouth, Wisconsin. He lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before moving to Portland where he traveled as a salesman in Oregon, Idaho, and Washington states. He was active in the "Steam Friends", an organization that restores old steam engines and antique tractors. After retirement, he free-lanced for Portland news magazines and wrote several books concerning steam engines and life on the farm when he was young.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Milton Herman and two sisters, Leila O'Brien, and Norma Knowles.
Surviving are a sister Mrs. Robert (Olive) Dunning of Waukon, Iowa and nieces and nephews.
