Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Vincent J. Hancock of Davenport, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 18, 1989 at the Hospice Unit of United Medical Center in Moline, Illinois. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 21 at 10:30 a.m. at St.Paul the Apostle Catholic Church where he was a member. Halligan-McCabe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Vince was born March 23, 1914 in Waukon, Iowa to Fred and Nellie (Quillin) Hancock. In May of 1939 he married Loretta Devitt in Waukon. He was employed by Railway Express for 34 years retiring in 1975. He was a volunteer pallbearer for Halligan-McCabe, an active member of the Democratic Party and a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks. He was also a member and past officer of both Loras Council 532 Knights of Columbus and Loras Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother William Hancock.
Surviving him are his wife, two daughters, Jan Mayer and Mary Hancock, both of Davenport, Iowa; three sons, Jim and Don of Davenport, Iowa, and Harold of Waterloo, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; three sisters, Rose Catherine Schulte, Rita Burke, and Jean Blocker, all of Waukon, Iowa.
