Mrs. Walton J. (Mary) Mellick, 78, died Tuesday, June 13, 1989 at her home in Waukon, Iowa. Services were held Friday, June 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket Bearers were David and James Thayer, Emmett Whalen, Donald Snitker, Vincent Mooney, and James Campbell.

Mary was born April 3, 1911 in Salem, South Dakota to James and Nelle (Connor) Baxter and graduated from Waukon High School. On June 1, 1938 she married Walton J. Mellick in Waukon.He died November 18, 1980. She was a homemaker and a member of St.Patrick's Church, St. Martin's Study Club, Rosary Society, and VFW Auxiliary.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Meryl Baxter, Harold Baxter, and James Baxter.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Jon (Bernadine)Parish of Altavista, Virginia, Mrs. Clarence (Catherine Ann) Thayer of Granger, Iowa, and Mrs. John (Jean Ellen) Beck of Jackson, Wisconsin and 12 grandchildren.
