WEEKEND ACCIDENTS CLAIM LIVES OF AREA YOUTHS
Tragedy marred the weekend in the Postville area when three young people lost their lives in two separate one car accidents.
Larry Dean Dundee, 17, son of the Roland Dundees, Luana, died Saturday night at the hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, from injuries suffered Friday night in a one-car crash two miles north of Clermont. He was thrown from his auto when it went out of control and landed in a ditch.
Services were held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, for the youth. Schutte's was in charge of arrangements. An obituary will appear in next weeks Herald.
Dead at the scene of an accident near Frankville, Saturday night were Mrs. Vincent (Judy Kay) Engen, 21, of Decorah and Gary LeRoy Winters, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Winters of rural Postville.
Both were passengers in a car driven by David Berg, 22, son of the Stanley Bergs of rural Postville, which went out of control, struck a bank and landed in the Charles Hoth farmyard.
Berg and another passenger, Ione Splide, 18, of Decorah, a sister of Mrs. Engen, were hospitalized in critical condition at LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
Martin Brothers Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of service for Winters.
