Funeral services were held Sunday, August 13 for Leslie Edwin Straate, 60, of Waukon, Iowa. He died Thursday, August 10, 1989 at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Henry Heinbuch conducted the services held at 1:30 p.m. at Zion United Church of Christ. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery, rural Waukon with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

He was born June 30, 1929 in Jefferson Township, Allamakee County, Iowa to Edwin H. and Ada E.(Wiemerslage) Straate. He attended Jefferson School #1 through the eighth grade and served in the Army from 1954 to 1956 and six years in the reserves as an anti-aircraft artillery and guided missile specialist. He enjoyed traveling and had been to South Africa, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. He was a member of Zion UCC and its church council and the American Legion.

Surviving are a sister, Margaret Straate of Waukon, Iowa, a brother Stanley Straate and his wife Mary of Postville,Iowa, a niece and a nephew. He was preceded in death by a brother David Straate and a sister, Linda Straate.

Casket bearers were Danny and Russell Straate, and Lynn, Mark, Lyle, and Kent Stock.
