Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Lester J. Stockman, 78, of rural Postville, Iowa, died October 1, 1989 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, Iowa. He was a retired farmer. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on October 5 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, Iowa. Rev. Julius Peterson officiated and burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bruce Stockman, Brian Stockman, Bill Duffy, Charles Stockman, Leonard Mellick, and Gilbert Livingood.
Lester was born October 16, 1910 in Postville, Iowa, the son of John and Mary Ann (Nuehring) Stockman. He married Florence Duffy on June 25, 1936 and was a lifetime resident of Allamakee County.
He is survived by his wife, a son, Gene Stockman of Postville; two daughters, Mrs. David (Karen) Handley of Madrid, Spain and Mrs. Tom (Sharon) Lowery of Lexington, Kentucky; 7 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.Preceding him in death were a son, James, in infancy, and a sister, Ruth Beisker.
He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. He was a member of St.Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville.
