Youth Drowns in Denver
Word was received in Postville on Wednesday evening that Ralph Hein, 13 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph F. Hein of Denver, Colorado, former residents of Postville, had drowned during the afternoon while attending a Boy Scout encampment. He slipped from a 10 foot rock ledge and fell into Tumbleson lake near Ward, Colo., and a fellow camp member recovered the body four minutes later, but all efforts at resuscitation failed. Ralph was born in Denver and attended Asbury and Grant Junior High Schools. He placed first in art last year and also played the clarinet in the school musical organizations. Besides his parents he is survived by his brother, Merle, 19, now stationed in Hawaii with the U.S. fleet. Wm. H. Hein, Mrs. Geo. W. Hein, Mrs. Frank Rounds, Mrs. Bernard Waters, O.J. Beucher, all of this community, and Mrs. L.J. Trunecek of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. G.A. Mead of Waterloo, aunts and uncles of the boy, went to Denver to attend the funeral services which were held Saturday at the Washington Park Community Methodist church, whose pastor, Rev. Samuel L. Maxwell, was a close friend of Ralph and active in Scout work.~Postville Herald, July 17, 1940
