James E. McNally, 74, of rural Monona, died Sunday morning, July 18, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wis., following a sudden illness. Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, July 22, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monona, with Rev. Richard Gaul, celebrant. Burial followed in Council Hill Cemetery, rural Monona, with military rites. Leonard Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements. James was born November 29, 1929, in Paint Creek Township to James and Emma (Larson) McNally. He entered the U.S. Army on March 5, 1947, and was honorably discharged on August 7, 1948. He was united in marriage to Loretta Sudol on October 9, 1951, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monona. Four children were born to this union. They farmed in the Monona area for many years. James enjoyed farming and being outdoors, spending time with his grandsons, and was a life long avid Chicago Cubs fan. Survivors include three daughters, Linda McNally of Monona, Lisa (Jim) Peterman of Monona, and Lori (Dan) Schulte of Anamosa; a son, James McNally of Decorah; five grandchildren, Mike McNally, Nik, Josh and Kolin Schulte and Hunter Fletcher; and his sister, Eldine (Dale) Fredendall of Independence, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife on March 27, 1996. Honorary casketbearers were Nik Schulte, Josh Schulte, Kolin Schulte, Hunter Fletcher, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Leas, Mr. and Mrs. LeAllen Johanningmeier, Jason Babbit, and Jane McShane. Casketbearers were Dan Schulte, John Kolker, Ted Moser, Jim Peterman, Bob Tayek, and Dean Babbit.
