Wm. Schlie Passes On at Home in Postville
_______William Schlee [sic] was born July 18, 1857, at Pasow, Province Pommern, Germany, and at the age of 25 years emigrated to the United States, working for a time in Michigan and then coming to Clayton county, Iowa.
On March 27, 1883, he was united in marriage with Miss Fredericke Schmidt at Garnavillo, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Sommerlatte [Sommerlad]. This union was blessed with seven children of whom the following survive: Henry Schlee of Gladbrook, Louis Schlee of Postville, Adelia (Mrs. Walter Casten) of Locust, and Edward Schlee of Grand Meadow township.
The first six years of their wedded life was spent in the vicinity of Garnavillo, Clayton Center and St. Olaf, and then they moved to Grand Meadow township, where after a term of years as tenants on the farm of Henry Schuette they purchased a farm of their own which they occupied for twelve years and then retired, purchasing a home in Postville, where they have since resided.
Mr. Schlee was an honest and upright man in all his dealings and during a long residence in this city and locality gained the respect and friendship of all who came within the circle of his acquaintance.
Following a short but serious illness he passed to his reward on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 1928.
The funeral was held from the Lutheran church in this city last Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. E. T. Finck. Interment in Postville cemetery.
