August Dahl Passes; Had Lived 90 Years In This Community
_______Funeral Service Today For One of the Oldest Residents of the Community
_______August Dahl, one of the oldest residents of this community, passed away Monday shortly before noon at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Schroeder, following a brief illness. He had been a resident of this city since 1908, when the family moved here from Clayton Center, and during the past eight years he made his home with the Schroeder family.
Funeral services are being held this afternoon at St. Paul’s Lutheran church, of which he was a longtime member. The Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig will officiate and interment will be in Postville cemetery.
William August Dahl was born at Garnavillo on June 10, 1854, the son of Peter Dahl and Anna Schroeder Dahl.
He was united in marriage to Sophia Harnack of Postville on March 17, 1882, and to this union four children were born, all of whom survive. They are, Sophia, Mrs. Henry Schroeder of Postville, Henry Dahl of St. Olaf, George Dahl of Arlington, Minn., and Eldo C. Dahl of Huntington, Ind. Also surviving are six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. Mrs. Dahl and one sister, Mrs. William Kuhlman, preceded him in death.
Before coming to Postville the family lived at Clayton Center.
