Alvin George Beneke, 75, of New Albin, passed away Monday evening, Sept. 20, 1999, at his home after a battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 21, 1924, in rural New Albin to Alfred and Emma (Meyer) Beneke. On Sept. 18, 1945, he married Violet Solberg in New Albin. Alvin served as a SSgt. in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1945 to 1947. Alvin and Violet have farmed on their "Poole Hill" ridge farm since 1961.
Survivors include his wife Violet, of New Albin; a daughter, Janet (Kurt) Stalsberg of Viroqua, Wis.; four sons, Bruce (Deb) of Houston, Minn., Bob (Diane), Daryl (Karen), and Randy (Marty), all of New Albin; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Anna Beneke in infancy and Nora McNulty, and twin brothers, John and Louie Beneke.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. from St. Peter's United Church of Christ in New Albin, with Rev. William Reese officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the New Albin Town House and Chapel on Wednesday from 6 p.m. to to 9 p.m., and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
