LOVED SON AND SCHOOLMATE GONE

On Sunday morning, September 19, 1920, the Angel of Death entered the William H. Kelly home, near Rossville, Iowa, and took from their midst, Reed, their only son, a bright little boy of seven years and two months, who was taken sick the Thursday previous with an attack of diabetes.

Reed was born on July 19, 1913 to William Harvey Kelly and Sarah (Klees) Kelly. He was on the cradle roll of the Rossville Presbyterian Sabbath School and was baptized by Rev. A.H. Gertsch on March 3, 1914. Reed was a bright, beautiful boy who made friends of all who knew him.

While not a very robust child at any time, Reed had been attending school and was progressing so rapidly that he was to have entered the third grade the day on which he was buried. His teacher, Miss Mame Deeney, and schoolmates, carrying beautiful flowers, followed the remains to his resting place and at the grave marched in single file, gently dropping a flower from the bouquet on the casket of their little friend. Reed will be sadly missed by all, but especially by his father, from whom he was almost inseparable.

Besides his parents he also leaves a sister, Ruth M. Kelly, at home, and many other relatives and friends. His pallbearers were his schoolmates, Frank McCormick, Fred Snitker, Donald McCormick and Gilbert Eadie. Reed was buried in the Rossville Cemetery. He will be greatly missed by all. The hearts of the whole community go out in sympathy to the parents and his sister.
