Helen Catherine Peters, 78, of Lansing, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Waukon.
She was born June 15, 1919 in Lansing to Joseph and Mae (Whalen) Wagner. She married Clem Peters Jan. 11, 1938 at Wexford.
Helen was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post 5981 in Lansing.
She is survived by five sons, Robert (Mary), Richard (Lettie), Donald (Lea Ann), and Thomas (Mary), all of Lansing, and Vincent (Pam) of Sandwich, Mass.; a daughter, Helene Peters of Lansing; 17 grandchildren: 21 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Hammel of Waukon, Ann Callahan of Wexford, and Rita Barry of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Wagner of Harpers Ferry; and a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Peters of Bellvue, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son Kenneth; a grandson Dale Peters; and a brother, Nick Wagner.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 15 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing. Fr. Herbert Tegeler officiated. Interment was in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Kevin Peters, Debbi York, Kenneth Peters, Mike Peters,Tony Peters, and Melinda Bolstad. The remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren were honorary casket bearers.
Funeral arrangements were by Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home.
