Contributor: Connie Ellis (not related)Thomas H. Montet was born November 11, 1952 in Blue Island, Illinois to Clarence and Helen (Schultz) Montet. He attended the Illinois State School for Handicapped Children and received BA and MA degrees in audiology and speech pathology from Illinois Southern University. Tom was a speech pathologist. In the late 1970's he moved to Waukon where he worked as a speech pathologist. On June 5, 1976, Tom married Suzanne Coons in Oglesby, Illinois. She died August 23, 1984.
He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Blue Island, the ASHA (the American Association for Speech Pathology) and the World Tae Kwon Do Federation. Tom had a Second Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and taught as an instructor.
He died Thursday, August 8, 1996 at the age of 43 in the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. In addition to his wife, Tom was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by a brother Dennis of Waukon; a niece, Gina Montet of Miami, Florida; a nephew, John Montet of Des Moines, Iowa and a great-niece.
Services were held at 2 o'clock p.m. Sunday, August 11 at First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Illinois, with the Rev. Glenn Blackwelder officiating. A memorial fund has been established to furnish Tae Kwon Do scholarships for physically challenged kids,
