Lifetime area resident Merlin F. Duvel, 74, of rural Waukon died Monday, May 29 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 31 at Salem United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dr. Elsa Marsland officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Duvel was born in Ludlow township, Allamakee County, May 31, 1914 to Charles and Emma Becker Duvel. He attended rural Allamakee County schools and was baptized June 26, 1914 by the Rev. K.J. Steubbe. Dec. 26, 1945, he married Ruth Rissman. She died Oct. 30. 1971. March 24, 1973 he married Geraldine Iseli at the First Presbyterian Church chapel in Waukon. She died Tuesday, May 30. He was a farmer and a member of Salem UCC.
Survivors include a stepson, Kenneth Iseli of rural Waukon; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Dayton (Virginia) Hazen of Waukon; four step-grandchildren; a step-grandson, and a sister, Mrs. Milton (Lorraine) Hanson of rural Waukon.
