Clem M. Zeimet, 84, of Lansing died Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Memorial services were held Tuesday, October 12 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Inurnment will be at Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing.
Clem was born June 27, 1926 in Allamakee County. He was the son of John and Leonette (Althoff) Ziemet. Clem attended schools in rural Allamakee County and served with the Merchant Marines. July 14, 1947 he was united in marriage to Darlene Ellgn at Luverne, MN.
Clem worked for area farmers and operated his own plumbing and pump business. He was known to many in Lansing for sitting on the street corner and waving to people, and many knew it wasn't spring until Clem was sitting outside. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Beck-Glenn-Strong Post #50 of the Lansing American Legion. He was also a former member of the Lansing Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief at one time.
Clem is survived by his wife, Darlene; four children, Carlyn (Edward) Lesch of Davenport, Michael (Teddi) Zeimet of Niceville, FL, Stuart (Lois) Zeimet of Vacaville, CA, and Judy Donato of San Pedro, CA; two brothers, Jim Zeimet of Hastings, MN and Adrian Zeimet of Sunrise, MO; two sisters, Mary McCarthy of Dubuque and Regina Collins of Rockford, IL; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Patrick and Bill; one daughter, Joan; two brothers, Tom and Barney; and one sister, Bernadette Weber.Waukon Standard, October 13, 2010
