Elmer H. Burmester, 76, New Albin, died Sunday, July 9 at his home.
Funeral services with military rites will be held Thursday July 13 at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ in New Albin with Revs. Larry and Laura Odegard officiating. Burial will be the church cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Kenneth Lambert and Joshua Staggemeyer, David Sievers, James Waters and Lauren Hain. Honorary pallbearers are Terry, Greg and Kevin Rosendahl, Richard Holten, Dennis Soride and Kenneth Beardmore. Roble Funeral Home, Spring Grove, MN is in charge of arrangements.
Elmer was born August 10, 1918 in Iowa township of Allamakee County to William and Louise Bisping Burmester. He was a life long member of St. John's UCC; was past president and treasurer of the church. He received his education at the Irish Hollow school.
Elmer served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, in England, Africa and Italy, from 1942-1945.
He and Stella Rosendahl were married Sept. 27, 1947 at the Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church.
She survives as do two daughters, Brenda, (Mrs. Wayne) Headington of Decorah and Claire (Mrs. Mike) Kokoszka of Fort Lupton, CO; a son Stuart and his wife Phyllis of Anoka, MN; eight grandchildren; a great granddaughter; two step grandchildren; a step-great grandson, two sisters, Margaret Sievers of Kenyon, MN and Nora Staggemeyer of Eitzen, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Louis.
Elmer worked for the Soo Line Railroad, Allis Chalmers, Argus Camera and as an electrician. He farmed the past 47 years on the Burmester century farm.
