Death of Christian Rettinger
Saturday at 2:30 p.m., at his home on the Park, occurred the death of this old and respected citizen, who for over forty years has been a resident of this vicinity. He had been ailing but a few weeks with bronchial pneumonia. The funeral yesterday afternoon from the German Presbyterian church, Rev. Kegel officiating, gave forceful though mute testimony of the esteem in which Mr. Rettinger was held, there being a very large attendance of old neighbors and friends to pay the last tribute of respect to his memory.
Deceased was born in Oftersheim, Germany, April 1, 1828. Came to Freeport, Ills., at the age of 18 and was married to Cathrine Ripberger and moved to Lansing in October 1864, first settling on a farm in this township where he resided continuously until about ten years ago when he sold out and made this city his home. He is survived by his widow and ten of their eleven children, as follows: J.J. of Hastings, Minn., Mrs. N. Yost, Stillwater, Minn., Mrs. E. Weiermueller, Leeds, N.D., Mrs. W. Moellermann, and Henry of this city; Samuel of York, N.D. Frank of Junietta, N.D., Mrs. Geo Troendle of Center township; and Albert, also of Junietta, N.D. All were present at the funeral save Frank and Albert, besides a number of grandchildren.
The bereaved have the sympathy of the community in their affliction.Allamakee Journal
