Carol Ann Stammeyer, 61, of Waukon died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. Services were held Saturday, September 25 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon.
Carol Ann Stammeyer was born January 16, 1949 in Waukon to Verni C. and Ethel A. (Heuer) Ehde. She attended rural Hanover Township elementary school and graduated from Waukon High School in 1967. While working at Deco Products Co. in Decorah she met coworker Joseph Stammeyer, Sr., they married April 20, 1968 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah.
Carol worked at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon as a CNA and CMA for 23 years, retiring in the Spring of 2010. She also farmed with Joe, raising Black Angus and Hereford cattle. After growing up as an only child, she loved having family around her, especially for the holidays, and was looking forward to more grandchildren.
Horses have been a lifelong passion for Carol, starting as a child when she first learned to ride. Registered Paints and Quarter Horses she raised have been shown throughout the United States. She is a former member of the Upper Iowa Saddle Club and current member of the American Quarter Horse and American Paint Horse Associations. She enjoyed going to horse sales, especially those out west. Following services, a horse-drawn conveyance will be used to transport her body to Oakland Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Stammeyer, Sr. of Waukon; three children, Joey (Jennie) Stammeyer of Onalaska, WI, and Lacey (Daric) Steiber and Ross (Alisha) Stammeyer, both of Waukon; two grandchildren, Makenzie Stammeyer and Colton Steiber, and three step-grandchildren, Lexi, Riley and Lily Kregel. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Honorary casketbearers are Kathy O’Malley, Bonnie Staack, Carol’s co-workers at Good Samaritan Center, and her grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Casketbearers are Randy Ehde, Matt Herold, Scott Miene, Tom Stammeyer, Todd Curtin, and Billy Joe Schaufenbuel.Waukon Standard, September 29, 2010
