MRS. FERDINAND MARTIN
Burial and Funeral Service Occurred Monday Afternoon Last
The burial and funeral service of Mrs. Ferdinand Martin, of whose death in St. Louis, Thursday last, mention was made in last Thursday's issue of the World-Journal, occurred Monday afternoon, at the Presbyterian church, the services being conducted by Rev. W. E. Fisher, D. D., and interment made at Oakwood cemetery. Many friends and old-time acquaintances of the deceased and the Martin family were present, offering their condolence and sympathy.
Deceased (Johanna Louise Goettel) was born at Falenwarden, near Berlin, Germany, in 1845; she came to America at the age of 14; the family located near Lansing, Iowa, and on May 13, 1866, she was united in marriage to Ferdinand C. Martin being for years engaged in the hardware business in Ackley, and at Wellsburg, the firm being Martin & Faust. Mr. Martin died eighteen years ago. For a time Mrs. Martin made her home in St. Louis, Mo., with Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Maune, her daughter, but later on returned to Ackley to remain; she had gone to St. Louis, to visit, about three weeks previous to her death.
She was a sister of the late Herman Goettel, also of Mrs. Faust, who died in Germany, after many years residence in Ackley; a sister of Mrs. Diestler of Rudd, Iowa, and of Gottlob Goettel, of Lansing, deceased. She is survived by her sons, William of this city, Reuben of Crystal City, Texas, her daughters, Mrs. Hilda Pleasants, St. Louis, Mrs. Etta Philleo, Aledo, Ill., and Mrs. Alma Wick, East San Diego, California. Mrs. Louise Maune, daughter, died in St. Louis several years ago. There are also seven great-grand children, Roy, Hildred and Martin Maune, Wilma and Martin Pleasant, of St. Louis, Hazel Martin, and Dallas Wick. In all a woman much beloved who experienced many of the rigors consequent to the life of the early settler in Iowa; but who accepted conditions as they were and sought to make the best of them, for herself, for the members of her family, and she is mourned by friends as well as relatives.
