Katherine Ellen Gruber, 81, died Sunday, June 11, 1995 at the Central Community Hospital, Elkader.
She was born December 28, 1913, on a farm in rural Lansing, the daughter of Joe and Catherine (Manning) Sullivan. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School, Lansing.
Kay married Harvey Gruber February 18, 1936 in a 22 below zero snowstorm at Immaculate Conception Church in Wexford. They farmed in rural Lansing and in the Monona area, after moving there March 1, 1950.
Katherine was an active member of St. Patrick's Church, the St. Patrick's Rosary Society, Foresters, and Catholic Daughters. She served her community in Monona Senior Citizens, Clayton Co. Food Shelf, Garden Club, Better Homemakers Club and 4-H.
She is survived by her husband, Harvey, two children their spouses, Dan and Olganida Gruber of New Sharon and Connie and Dave Carroll of Poway, CA; six grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a son, Harvey, Jr.; a granddaughter, Tamara Carroll; one sister and three brothers.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monona. Father John Moran officiated. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were were Ben Schissel, Anna Mae Rothmeyer, Lucille Thiesen, Vella Troester, Marge Kliefoth, and Avis Berns. Pallbearers were Mark Gruber, John Gruber, Joe Ferguson, Gary Carroll, Vince Neuzil, and Jerod Myers.
Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements.
