The death of James P. Baxter occurred at his home in Waukon on Monday, April 26, he having been in ill health for the past year.
James Patrick Baxter was born in Allamakee County on October 29, 1884, a son of John T. and Mary Magner Baxter. He had lived in Allamakee county all of his life with the exception of three years spent in South Dakota. He was married on June 1, 1910 at Howard S.D. to Nellie Connor, who survives with a daughter Mary, Mrs. Walton Mellick, Waukon, and two sons, Harold Baxter, Charles City, Iowa and James Baxter, Iowa City, Iowa. There are four grandchildren and one great grandchild; three brothers, Leonard and Frank Baxter, Waukon and Clem Baxter, Waterville.
Mr. Baxter was a livestock dealer and former sheriff of Allamakee County.
Last rites will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Waukon on Thursday at 9:00 A.M. with interment in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
