Luella A. "Lou" Meyer, 65, of Caledonia died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at her home. She was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Iowa Township, Allamakee County, Iowa, to John Sr. and Laura (Schuttemeier) Breeser. Lou attended grade school in New Albin, Iowa, and Jefferson Township, Minn., before graduating from high school in New Albin.
On Jan. 30, 1958, she married Merlin Meyer at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in New Albin. Lou worked at the Caledonia Hospital as a nurses' aid and also as an assistant for Dr. Alfs and Dr. Davidson. In January 1969, she started with Houston County, where she was employed for the last 32 years and recently retired as deputy auditor.
Lou enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling and fishing with her husband, Merlin. Lou will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Jody (Chris) Bird of Caledonia; one son, Bruce (Shelley) of Caledonia; two grandsons, A.J. and Tanner Bird, both of Caledonia; her mother, Laura Breeser of Caledonia; two sisters, Ruth Breeser and Elaine (Milton) Burroughs, both of Caledonia; two brothers, Lee (Joan) Breeser of Eitzen, Minn., and John Jr. (Sharon) Breeser of New Albin; and many nieces and nephews. Lou was preceded in death by her father. Funeral services will be Friday, June 29, 2001, at 11 a.m. from Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia. The Rev. Rolf T. Storlie will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, 518 W. Main St., Caledonia, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., and at the church Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
