Urban Edmund Sanderman

Urban Edmund Sanderman, 91, of Waukon, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 10, at 11 a.m. at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon with Rev. Donald Berg officiating.

Casket bearers were Jeffery, Brian and Daniel Sanderman; James Harris, Pat Otting and Larry Straate.

Burial was in the church cemetery, and Martin Funeral Home of Waukon handled arrangements.

Urban Edmund Sanderman was born Oct. 31, 1909 on the Union Prairie Township, rural Waukon, farm of his parents, Edward Ernest and Minnie Louise (Osterholz) Sanderman.

He was baptized and confirmed at Zalmona Presbyterian Church and attended the rural Helming School.

On Feb. 27, 1936 he married Dorothy Snitker at a ceremony performed in her parents' Waukon home by Rev. DeBuhr.

Together they farmed in Union Prairie Township with a dairy, hog and crop operation.

In 1977 they retired and moved to Waukon.

He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and formerly served as a Deacon and Elder. He also served as a director of the Ludlow Creamery and was a member of Farm Bureau.

Urban Sanderman enjoyed being with people and liked to go out to eat, play cards, and visit with his friends. He also did some gardening following his move to town and was fond of following his grandchildren's activities.

Survivors include a son, Gene and Barb Sanderman of Decorah; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Neil and Bonnie Sanderman of Waukon and a sister, Bernice Hermanson of Huron, S. D.

Urban Edmund Sanderman was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dorothy Sanderman.
