The death of Mrs. Alice McMillin, 80, of Waukon occurred on Sunday, December 23, at the Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a period of ill health.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday evening at Martin Bros. Funeral Home in Waukon, with the Rev. Wm. J. Tjaden officiating. Funeral services were held from the Community Funeral Chapel at New New Albin on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.. A nephew, Rev. Paul C. Jordan of Lowden, Iowa officiated. Burial was in the New Albin Cemetery.
Alice Genevieve Schmidt was born in New Albin on April 4, 1893, the youngest child of John and Briget Doyle Schmidt. She attended school and grew up in New Albin and was married at St. John's Evangelical Church at Wheatland to Arthur B. Jordan on June 25, 1913. They were the parents of three daughters. Mr. Jordan died in an automobile accident in August of 1927.
On February 27, 1929, she was married to J. William McMillin of Chaplin, Saak. One son was born to this union. They resided in Chaplin, with Mr. McMillin's death occurring in 1957.
Mrs. McMillin came to Waukon in 1966. She and her son lived together.She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Waukon Senior Citizens. She received her 50 year membership pin from the Royal Neighbors of America, having been a member at New Albin.
She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Irene) Deeney and Mrs. Dale (Elnora) Robey and a son Glen, all of Waukon; and two step-daughters, Mrs. Fred (Opal) Smythe, Chaplin, Saak, and Mrs. Leonard (Florence) Peters, Hanley, Saak., also six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.Source: Allamakee Journal, Lansing, IA - Jan. 2, 1974
