Emmet Magner

Emmet W. Magner, 80, of Cedar Rapids died Sunday evening, June 6, 2010 of natural causes at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids. Funeral mass was held Wednesday, June 9 at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids with Father Thomas McDermott officiating. Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Emmet was born November 5, 1929 in Waukon and moved to Cedar Rapids from rural Waukon in 1955. He married Barbara J. Campbell April 17, 1951 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Waukon. Emmet had farmed in rural Waukon and then was employed by Cryovac Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids for 40 years, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church. Emmet loved his family and had a golden heart. He was a Cubs fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR races, Cubs games and “Kurt Warner football”.

Emmet is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara; children, Patrick (Sue) Magner of Cedar Rapids, Debbie (John) Egan of Luana, Peggy (Mark) Hewitt of Cedar Rapids, Michael Magner of Winona, MN, Kathy (Brett) Ibsen of Shellsburg, and Diane (Nathan) Humbert of Palo; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeanette (Tom) Kilpatrick of Palo; and a brother, Joseph (Anne) Magner of Elizabethtown, PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Emily (Griffin) Magner.

A memorial fund has been established in Emmet’s name.
