Marie Amelia Emma Meyer, daughter of Elvin W. and Orma (Meier) Schultz, was born Feb. 9, 1918 in Post Township, north of Postville, Iowa. She passed away at her home in Postville on Thursday, June 3, 1993. She was 75.

She was baptized April 25, 1918 by the Rev. Schmidt and confirmed Aug. 24, 1931 by the Rev. R. B. Garten, both at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Marie attended the West Grove School north of Postville, graduated from Postville High School in 1936 and graduated from the University of Iowa College of Nursing in 1939.

On Sept. 18, 1943, she was married to Willard C. Meyer by the Rev. F. R. Ludwig, at the home of her mother. They had two daughters. They farmed near Clermont and then moved to Postville in 1963.

Marie had been employed as a Registered Nurse in University Hospitals for two years, the Decorah Hospital for two years and then for Community Memorial Hospital in Postville for 20 years.

Marie was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and the Women of the ELCA. She was on the Care Review Board of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville and the Hospice Board of Northeast Iowa and was a member of the Monday Club.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willard, who died Feb. 6, 1975, and a granddaughter, Laurie Jean Binfet, who died Aug. 23, 1974.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean and her husband, Wayne Binfet of Eden Prairie, Minn. and Mary and her husband, Peter Hubbard of Iowa City; four grandchildren; a brother, William C. Schultz, Austin, Tex. and two nieces.

A memorial service for Marie A. Meyer was held Thursday, June 10, 1993 in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The Rev. Charles W. Miller officiated. John O. Falb was the soloist, accompanied by Joann Martins, organist.

The Schutte Funeral Service, of Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Inurnment was Saturday, June 12 in the Postville Cemetery.
