The death of Mrs. Etta Cowell, rural Monona, occurred at the Veteran's Memorial Hospital, Waukon on June 16, following several years of ill health. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, June 19, at 1:30 from Martin Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Clements of Monona officiating.
Etta Cowell Klees was born in Linton township. Her parents were Tom and Anna Newcomb Cowell and she lived all of her life in Allamakee county. She was married on November 25, 1914 at Waukon to Frank Klees who passed away in January, 1954. They lived on a farm in Franklin township where she continued to live with her son Raymond.
Surviving are two sons and two daughters: Paul and Raymond Klees, rural Monona; Clara, Mrs. John Kelly, Harpers Ferry; and Marie, Mrs. Everett McKee, Castalia; two brothers: David Cowell, Monona, and Harley Cowell, Postville; two sisters, Sybil, Mrs. Rufus Seitz, rural Luana, and Mrs. Ethel Kolowinski, Puyallup, Washington. There are 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Klees was a member of the Volney Methodist Church.
Interment was in Oakland cemetery with Steve Vichlach, Stanley Ewing, Eugene Deal, Vern Dundee, Lowell Walters and Vern Haberichter serving as pallbearers.
