Lansing and the surrounding area received a rude shock when the sudden death of Clem Peters at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse became known Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Peters had experienced failing health the last couple of months.
He was born May 19, 1912 in Allamakee county, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Peters. He was graduated from the Lansing Public School. On January 11, 1938, he married Helen Wagner at the Wexford Catholic Church. They became the parents of seven children: Kenneth, San Antonio, Texas; Robert, San Diego, Calif.; Richard, Chu Lai, Viet Nam; Donald, Twentynine Palms, Calif.; Thomas, Norfolk, Virginia; Vincent and Helene at home. Besides his wife and afore mentioned children, he is survived by seven grandchildren, one brother Vernon, Lansing, two sisters, Enid, Mrs. Al Schultz and Laurayne, Mrs. John Rossi, Fairbault, Minnesota.
Clem Peters was employed most of his life as a mechanic and became known near and far as a top-knotch man in that profession. The past seven years he was the operator of Peters and Son D-X Station. The deceased had been a member of the Lansing Fire Department for 20 years. He was also a past member of the city council.
Services were held at 12:30 p.m. from I.C. Church in Lansing with Cyril Murphy, Harold Englehorn, Lawrence Protsman, Jim Powers, Barney Ziemet and Mike Connors acting as pallbearers. Burial was made in Gethsemane Cemetery.
All of the sons were here for the funeral services, it taking Dick approximately 72 hours to fly home from Viet Nam almost 14,000 miles away. With the exception of Vincent, all of his sons are serving in the military.
