Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church on Tuesday for John W. Lambert, 85, who passed away at Postville Hospital on December 1. The Rev. Charles E. Witt officiated. Burial was in Postville cemetery. Masonic rites were conducted at the graveside.

John Wiley Lambert was born on March 22, 1871, the son of Enos Smith Lambert and his wife, Esther Holcomb Lambert, near Castalia. He passed away at the Postville Hospital on December 1, 1956, at the age of 85 years, eight months and eight days.

He was baptized in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church on March 26, 1939 and confirmed on April 2, 1939. He was married to Katharine Snyder at the home of her father five miles north of Postville on September 27, 1894.

Mr. Lambert worked approximately 40 years with the Soo Line Railroad as a station agent and operator in Plaza and Butte, North Dakota. When he suffered a stroke, he was forced to give up his position with the railroad, and has lived in Postville for the past 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Fremont of Minneapolis and Joseph of Chicago, and four sisters, Mrs. Vivian Carlton of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Alma Trayan of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Myra Fox of California and Mrs. Millie Riggs of Castalia.

He is survived by his wife; one sister, Mrs. Eva Eversoll of Tama, Iowa; one brother, Marion of Luana; and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Lambert was an active member of the Masonic Lodge during the many years he lived in North Dakota.
