George Willis was born in Lincolnshire, England, June 9, 1849, and died at his home in Franklin township on Oct. 10, 1927, having attained the age of 78 years and four months.

He received his education in the public schools of that country and later at the age of eighteen took up engineering and followed this occupation until coming to America in 1875.

Going to Colorado he became connected with the Union Pacific railroad. Here he remained for seven years, after which he engaged in farming. He resided in Colorado until 1898, when he came to Iowa, locating near Forest Mills, and in later years at his late home.

Mr. Willis was twice married. On June 5, 1873, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Bowen. To this union seven children were born, two of them dying in early life. Those living are Abraham, who is engaged in farming near Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Mollie Whaley of Waterloo, Mrs. Elizabeth Ewing and Mrs. Anna Ewing of Forest Mills, and George, residing near New Albin. Mrs. Willis passed away on Nov. 18, 1914.

In February, 1916, Mr. Willis was again married, his second union being with Mrs. Anna Webster of Post township, who with the five children, 21 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren mourn the loss of a loving husband and father.

He will not only be missed by his loved ones but by a great number of friends who had learned to know him as a true friend, a faithful husband and a kind and devoted father.
