Funeral services were held Friday, March 5 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville. The Very Rev. Richard Gaul officiated. Burial followed in the Postville Cemetery in Postville.
Terry was born August 25, 1923 at Dell Rapids, SD to Frank and Marie (Fitzgerald) Hogan. He was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dell Rapids, SD September 2, 1923. He attended schools in Agar, SD and Harpers Ferry. Terry farmed with his parents in South Dakota, and then they moved to the Harpers Ferry area and continued farming. As a young adult he returned to the Dakotas for fall harvest in the spud and wheat fields.
He was united in marriage to Betty Jane Kubitz of Waukon October 24, 1953 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. To this union two daughters, Colleen and Connie, were born. They lived and farmed in the Monona and Postville area until selling their farm and moving to Postville in 1989.
Terry and Betty enjoyed a lot of traveling which included many bus and Amtrak trips. They were great fans of the Cubs and Bulls. They were also members of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville. Their love of music took them to many evenings of dancing. His “retirement” brought him many happy hours working for area farmers and Sweeney Auction of Waukon.
Terry held the office of the “President of Grand Meadow Township.” His gift of “GAB” brought him many countless hours of endless friendships. He valued a good laugh and had a way of telling a story that one would never forget. His love for his grandchildren was endless and they always brought a smile to his face.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hogan; two daughters, Colleen (Ed) Livingood of Decorah and Connie Klepper (fiancé Robert Plaht) of Luana; two sisters, Margaret Kester of Davenport, and Madonna Bielser of Bettendorf; one sister-in-law, Angela Hogan of Postville; four grandchildren, Brandon (Rebecca) Livingood, Blake (Jess) Livingood, Kyle Klepper and Celsey Klepper; and one great-grandchild due in August.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Thomas Hogan, Geraldine (Curt) Trytten, and George Hogan in infancy; and two brothers-in-law, Wayne Kester and Charles Bielser.
