Paint Creek Township Lady Dies After Long Illness
Funeral is Friday

Mrs. Mathias Johnson passed away Tuesday at her home in Paint Creek Township at the age of 82 years. She had been in failing health for several months, and had been confined to her bed the last four weeks. Mrs. Mathias Johnson, nee Anna Geving, was born May 22, 1856, at Stodal, Norway, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Geving. When she was nine years old she came with her parents, one sister and two brothers to this country and they settled in Michigan. Two years later they came to Paint Creek Township and settled on a farm. In 1876 she was married to Mathias Johnson. Nine children were born to this union, two of whom preceded their parents in death. Mr. Johnson died 21 years ago. She leaves to mourn her death the following children; Mrs. Ida Lund, John, Melvin, Berhart, all of Waterville, Mrs. Martina Stadsvold of Starbuck, Minnesota, Mrs. Nora Hansmeier, and Mrs. Selma Frink of Waukon. Thirteen grandchildren and one brother, George Geving of Waukon also survive. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 o'clock from the home and at 12:00 o'clock at the Old West Paint Creek Church. The Rev. A.P. Lea will conduct the services and interment will be in the nearby cemetery. The casket bearers will be six grandchildren, Hjalmer and Alvin Olsen, Marlin and Lloyd Johnson, Mathias Lund and LaVerne Hansmeier.
