Alice V. Sandry, 86, died Thursday May 9, 1991, at Northgate Care Center, Waukon. She was born Feb. 22, 1905 in Waterville to Herman and Lizzie (Dee) Schmieden. She grew up on her parents farm in Center Township. She attended school at the Dalby rural school near her home. On October 26, 1926 she married Willard J. Sandry at the East Synod Lutheran Church near Waterville. Together they farmed in Center Township. Alice enjoyed farming and in particular raising chickens and planting gardens. She was a good cook (always making sure everyone had enough to eat) and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She moved to Northgate Care Center in Waukon on November 2, 1983. Alice is survived by a son, Richard and wife Dorothy, of rural Lansing; two sisters, Meta Ness and Luella Knudtson, both of Waterville; and two grandchildren, Julie and David Sandry. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard who died February 21, 1976; two brothers, Victor and Clarence; and a sister, Edna Prestemon. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Zion United Church of Christ. Rev. Henry Heinbuch officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Jim Hager, Ernie Lubahn, Marvin Sires, Howard Ness, Wayne Schmieden, and Roger Prestemon. Martin Funeral Home, Waukon was in charge of arrangements.
