Rites for Selmer Engen Saturday
Funeral services were held Saturday Feb 23, at 1:30 p.m. from Old West Paint Creek Church for Selmer Engen, who died Wednesday Feb 20 in Waukon Veterans Memorial Hospital. He had been in ill health for several months.
He was born in Allamakee County Sept 7, 1893 and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Engen. He attended rural schools and his occupation was farming until his retirement.
Sept. 28, 1923 he married Juliet Ehrie in Winneshiek County. She survives with two children, a son Gordon Engen of Waukon and a daughter Mrs. Andrew (Loretta) Sorum of rural Decorah. Ten grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Emelia Aure of Waukon and Martha Moe of Madison, Wisc., also survive. A half sister Edna Henry, two half brothers, Albert and Carl Engen preceded him in death.
He was a member of Old West Paint Creek Church.
The Rev. E.O. Baalson officiated at the services and burial was in the Old West Paint Creek Church Cemetery. Larry Engen, Kenneth Engen, Allan Cole, Ordell Sorum, David Sorum, and Jerry Sorum were pallbearers. Bakke and Hanson funeral home was in charge of arrangements.Republican-Standard
