Mary Regina Finley, 89, of Elkader, IA, died Sunday morning, June 25, 2000 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, IA from injuries suffered in a fall at her home on June 19.
She was born on September 3, 1910 in Grand Meadow Township, rural Postville, IA, to Edward and Christina (Steele) McNeil. She graduated from Postville High School and taught country school in the Gunder area.
She was united in marriage to Edward J. Finley on October 14, 1937 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Postville. They made their home on the Finley family farm until moving to town in 1964. Edward died in 1973. Mary always stayed active while working in various stores in downtown Elkader, right up until her accident. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, St. Joseph's Guild and Crafters, and Coterie. She loved playing cards and enjoyed being a part of bridge clubs.
Survivors include her two sons, Patrick (Diane) and John (Marjorie); and two grandsons, Tim and Ryan, all of Elkader. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Joe, Dan, and Jack McNeil; and two sisters, Bea Ducharme and Marjorie Hale.
Mass of Christian Burial was conducted on Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elkader, IA. The Rev. Paul R. Peters officiated with burial in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Elkader, IA.
Casketbearers were John Orr, Tom Whittle, Mike McNeil, Tim Finley, Ryan Finley and Jack Dittmer.
