Joseph F. Troendle 93 of Lansing, IA died Tuesday November 17, 2009 at his home following a short illness.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday November 23, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Church Hall with burial in Gethsemane Cemetery, both in Lansing. Friends may call on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 71 years, Alberta; children: John (Angella) Troendle and Gerald (Marilyn) Troendle both of Waukon, IA, Alice (Gerald) Clemments of Layton, UT, Elizabeth “Betsy” Shew of Poway, CA, Ann (Francis) Delaney of Lansing, IA, Monica (David)Monserud of Waterville, IA, George (Susan) Troendle of Waukon, IA, James (Patricia) Troendle of Woodbury, MN, Mary Ann (Jeff) Kelly of Waterville, IA, Joseph Jr. (Rhonda) Troendle of Oskaloosa, IA, Lucille (Thomas) Hilleshiem of LaCrosse, WI; 40 grandchildren, 70 plus great grandchildren; one great, great, grandchild; one sister Lucille (Bernard) Mauss of New Albin, IA; four sisters-in-law: Sister Georgia Hammell, Pauline Blaskowski, Esther Walleser, Anna Collins; three brothers-in-law: George, Larry, and Jim Hammell.

Joseph was born May 29, 1916 in rural Lansing, IA to Herman and Lena (Ferring) Troendle. He married Alberta Hammell on November 24, 1938 at New Albin. In earlier years he worked as a farm hand and cut buttons at the Lansing Button Factory. He and his family farmed for 34 years in the Lansing area. After retiring from farming he worked as a janitor at the Post Office and did home work for the Button Factory. He enjoyed playing cards, fixing puzzles, fishing, and family gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Victor in 1961, a sister Adeline Hammel, a brother John at the age of 12; a son-in-law, four brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.
