Harlan E. Koopman, Sr., 76, of Cedar Rapids died at his home Tuesday, August 3, 1999 after a sudden illness. Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 7 at St. Jude Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids with military services conducted by the VFW Post #788. A vigil service was held Friday and Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his wife Mary; two sons, Harlan of Center Point and Anthony of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Hazel Druger and Jean Stanek, both of Visalia, CA.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Gerhardt, Alfred, Adolph, Harold, and Richard Koopman; and three sisters, Freida Henkes, Ella Kurth and Irma Hess.
Harlan was born August 21, 1922 in Postville to Henry and Johanna Deters Koopman and married Mary Stark on March 1, 1962 in Cedar Rapids. He retired in 1973 from Wilson Foods where he had worked for 23 years. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 788, the Catholic Order of Foresters and served as the assistant secretary of the ABC Bowling Association. He was a Marine Corp veteran of WWII.
