Services were held Saturday, Dec. 20 for Mrs. Christina Koevenig who passed away Dec. 18 at the Good Samaritan home in Waukon.
The Rev. Dick Harberts officiated at the services held at the Schutte Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m.
Christina Johanna Blumhagen Koevenig, daughter of Otto Blumhagen and Caroline Stolzenburg Blumhagen was born Oct. 18, 1874 in Strassburg, Germany. She came to the United States at the age of nine and lived in or near Postville the remainder of her life.
She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in 1889. On Feb. 4, 1897, she was united in marriage to Joseph August Koevenig. To this union two children were born, Adolph, who preceded her in death and Louis of Postville. Her husband also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Koevenig was prominent in business in Postville having had a millinery store, a restaurant and a variety store from which she retired in 1942. She had been in ill health for ten years and was cared for in the Good Samaritan Home in Waukon since 1962.
She is survived by her son Louis, two grandsons, Eugene of Keystone, South Dakota and James of Lawrence, Kansas; four great grandchildren and many relatives.
Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
